Happy October! We hope you are well and that you’ve had a chance to enjoy a bit of sunshine after the rain. As autumn unfolds, Sierra Roots is once again preparing for the Emergency Weather Shelter season.
We want to sincerely thank our volunteers for the time, care and commitment they gave during last year’s operations. Because of their efforts, our community had refuge on some of the harshest nights of the year.
As we look ahead, we’re beginning to organize our staff and volunteer teams for the upcoming season. We’d love to know if you’re interested in being part of this year’s shelter team. Whether you’ve served in past seasons or are considering joining us in a new way, your presence is valued. Please contact us by October 14th to let us know your availability and level of interest.
As always, our shelter moves with the rhythm of Mother Nature, so our needs can be last-minute and unpredictable. We completely understand that your availability may not always line up with our openings and there are never any hard feelings if you can’t make it. If you’d like to be part of the team this season, even occasionally, we’d love to hear from you! The more hands we have on deck, the more likely we’ll be able to open our doors when they’re needed most.
In the coming weeks, we’ll share updates on trainings, orientation dates and a brief refresher on shelter operations and weather-activation criteria.
Here’s to another season of communal camaraderie and coming in from the cold.
