Our Biggest Needs

EMERGENCY WEATHER SHELTER NEEDS
(activations are sporadic and weather contingent)

  • Dinner Food Donations
  • Breakfast Food Donations
  • Morning Cardio Clean Up Crew (2-4 for sweeping/mopping Vets Hall from approx. 7:00 –
    8:00 am on mornings when the shelter is closing.) CURRENTLY OUR BIGGEST NEED!

DIANNE’S WEEKLY LUNCH NEEDS
(Every Thursday @ 11:30, 1 st Community Church)

FOOD

Meals : Should feed 25 – 35 and be soft-textured for participants with dental needs. Volunteers prepare meals in advance
and cover all costs. Frequency is usually 1 dish/month of either:

  • Protein Main (Casseroles, burritos, one pot stews, work great!)
  • Veggie Sides
  • Green Salad
  • Dessert

OTHER LUNCH NEEDS

  • Hauling items upstairs into church and back out (requires earlier arrival)
  • Assisting with Dianne’s Giving Table

CLOTHING NEEDS
Clothing : should be clean, functional, and in good condition – something you’d feel comfortable wearing yourself

  • Jeans (all sizes)
  • Sturdy shoes in good condition
  • Long-sleeve shirts in neutral/dark colors (low visibility)
  • Hoodies (L, XL, XXL)
  • Winter jackets with hoods (L, XL, XXL)
  • Long johns / thermal layers

WHAT WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING

  • Used Underwear
  • Pillows/Blankets
  • Socks (we are still working through a generous donation of socks!)

Weekly Lunches

Serve at our weekly lunches every Thursday, 11am at Pioneer Park.

Emergency Weather Shelter

Volunteers work occasionally from November-April on the coldest nights throughout the winter season. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Help set up the shelter to create a safe, welcoming environment for participants.
  • Greet and check-in shelter participants. 
  • Meal preparation and kitchen clean-up

Board Members

We are looking for those individuals who want to make a difference in our community. Become a Board Member! We are always looking for fresh ideas. We have once a month meetings at the Madelyn Helling Library.

Web Design / Tech Support

Work with our board members to help update our website. Assist in designing graphics to visually communicate the organization’s role in the community and solicit new volunteer positions.

Other Ways to Give

SPD Community Card

Sign up for a Community Card at SPD Markets in Grass Valley and Nevada City. A portion of every dollar you spend goes directly to Sierra Roots. It is a simple as completing a form at SPD, get your Community Card and then show this card every time you shop at SPD.
